Photography
- an introduction
An understanding of the technical basics of photography and some of its key elements
can go a long way in improving the quality of pictures that we produce with our
cameras.
I have tried to keep the language for this discussion as non-technical as possible.
So! Let's start!
Photography is
the process of recording images by exposing light-sensitive film or array to light
or other forms of radiation
it is also
the art hobby, or profession of taking photographs, and developing and printing
the film or processing the digitized array image
According to the Encarta Dictionary
What is Photography?
As the name suggests - Photography is writing (graphy) with light (photo). The camera
is the device allows us to do this kind of writing.
The picture
is written on a photosensitive material near the back of the camera.
If your camera uses a film - then that
film is the photosensitive material whereas if your camera deploys the newer digital
technology then most probably the photosensitive material is a CCD (charged couple
device) or some similar material.
Here onwards, for the sake of simplicity we shall refer to the photosensitive material as film
here onwards.
